Position Description: As part of the company’s sales team, Sales Consultant handles both new and pre-owned sales transactions.
Core Activities:
- Approach, greet, and offer assistance or directions to customers who enter the dealership showroom or traverse the sales lot
- Help customers select vehicles by asking questions, listening carefully to responses, and assessing their needs
- Explain product features, vehicular performance standards and optional equipment available for purchase
- Following dealership procedure, obtain proper identification and schedule test drives
- Understand and successfully explain to customers the federal, state and local laws which govern retail automotive sales and leases
- Introduce customers to the general or a sales manager
- Write accurate and complete transactional contracts; process the paperwork in accordance with dealership policies and mandated regulations of compliance
- Submit properly completed paperwork (insurance information, certificate of title and registration for a trade-in vehicle, etc.) to an F & I associate
- Deliver vehicles to customers and review operating features, warranty and finalized paperwork with the customer before s/he leaves the premises
- Achieve and maintain a high Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI)
- All other tasks as assigned
Ancillary Activities:
- Attend product and sales training activities, as required, by management and manufacturers
- Oversee preparation of sold/leased vehicles for timely delivery to the customer
- Introduce customers to the service department and schedule first service appointment, if possible
- Maintain prospecting endeavors and customer follow-up activities that encourage repeat/referral business
- Forecast personal income goals consistent with dealership standards of productivity and devise a strategy to meet the goals
Physical Activities:
- Standing – up to 95% of the work day
- Hands on /data entry – 30% of the work day
- Phone Use (prospecting, etc.) – 20% of the work day
Professional Prerequisites:
- Minimum 2-5 years of experience in sales, preferably the automotive industry, or equivalent job-related experience
- Valid driver license and insurable
- Valid sales license or capacity to obtain one
- Knowledge of tag and title laws and the functionality of the state DMV
